Formed in 2000 in Modesto, California, Obsidian originally featured Deimitri Reyes (SIX MILLION DEAD) on vocals/guitar, Danny Stevenson (ex-IMPERIUM, ex-LUNAR) on synths, Josh Jones (ex-NORDIC FROST, ex-ZOMBIE DEATH STENCH) on bass, Mike Maxwell (ex-DESCEND) on lead guitar, and Justin Driskill on vocals. After lineup changes, Deimitri took over as lead vocalist, and Alex Bosson (LUNAR, HELION PRIME, PLANESWALKER) joined on drums. In 2003, they self-released the Enslaved By Nightmares EP, followed by the addition of guitarist Nate Amundsen (ex-IMPERIUM, ex-MOMENT OF LOSS) in 2004.
Despite a strong run across California and Arizona, life pulled the band apart in 2005—leaving behind an unfinished full-length album. Now, nearly two decades later, the original lineup (minus Nate, who has since departed) has reunited under a new banner: The Obsidian Resurrection.
Their long-awaited debut album, As Darkness Falls, resurrects and reimagines their 2003 demo while introducing brand-new material that bridges their past and present.
