Swiss rock-soul band Olympic Antigua returns with new EP

Swiss rock-soul band Olympic Antigua shares their much-anticipated second EP, “Heavy Heart”. The EP, co-produced by Marcello Giuliani (known for his work with Sophie Hunger, Anna Aaron, Erik Truffaz), showcases six iridescent tracks flavoured with timeless and solar soul. Recorded in the wooden atmosphere of the renowned ICP Studios in Brussels, Heavy Heart captures a raw yet polished sound.
The EP was mixed and mastered in New York by D. James Goodwin, a celebrated producer who has worked with artists such as Kevin Morby and Bonny Light Horseman. This release marks a new chapter for the band, solidifying their place in the music landscape.
Gone is the first track of this second EP and it reveals the new facets of Olympic Antiguaʼs music: a refined composition takes the listener back to a forgotten world where the wheel is not reinvented but it is instead destroyed by distorted pianos and screeching guitars.
Giving its name to the EP, Heavy Heart offers acoustic sonorities that have been unexplored by the band up to now. Is it an homage to the wooden rooms of ICP studios or is it the result of stripped-down production? A secret is a secret. It is nonetheless a game of mirrors uncovering from time to time the lyricsʼ intimacy.
Titled Get Rid Of The Sting, the third track is feverish and tropical. Conceived as musical thunderstorms, subtle rhythms guide an acoustic guitar lost in the electrified arrangements. This song comes with a classy and beautiful lyrics video shot on super 8 and directed by Gaétan Nicolas and Ramona Gschwend.
The fourth track A Little Walk highlights the shi operated in the second part of the EP. Countering the complex production of the preceding track, this song offers a breath of fresh air through light instrumentation and fragile vocals.
So Long is certainly the best example of the numerous facets found in this EP. Lead by grandiloquent organs and discrete arrangements, this track is noteworthy for its multiple parts assembled in one stellar song. In conclusion, Your Waving Hand is nocturnal and personal. In this last text addressed to the listener, a simple guitar line meets the ultramarine keys of a piano. The final adieu is brief and powerful, marked by subtle silences.
The band will be supporting this new EP across Switzerland this autumn, including shows in Solothurner Musiktage and Label Suisse in Lausanne. They will be presenting a very special show at Foucoupe on November 1st.
