About Sheffer Stephens

Born in Kentucky to a choir director and a Southern gospel soprano, Sheffer Stephens was destined for a life in music. By the age of four, he was already performing—his rendition of When the Saints Go Marching In at the Cincinnati Conservatory marking the start of his musical journey.

Though he initially pursued music academically, Sheffer found his true calling elsewhere. He picked up an old Silvertone guitar, teaching himself to play and write songs. A coin flip would ultimately lead him to New York City, where he immersed himself in the local music scene, performing as a bassist and singer with several bands. He played for thousands of followers at legendary venues like The Bitter End and The

Bottom Line, as well as regional shows at The New Haven Arena and various outdoor festivals. Determined to develop his own sound, Sheffer took to the subways, refining a style that blends rock, country, folk, and soul with a simple yet poetic sensibility, reminiscent of heroes like Tom Petty and Wilco. He quickly learned how to captivate an audience in just a moment.

Now based in Nashville, Sheffer Stephens continues to write and record. His official debut record produced by longtime collaborator and friend Kieran Kelly (The Buddy Project), is set for release in late 2025 or early 2026.

"To experience the music of Sheffer Stephens is to immediately be connected to something old, something new, and something wonderful all at once."

– J. Trick, Ring Street Records
