When Peruvian artist La Zorra Zapata moved to Mexico City, she didn't arrive as a visitor. She arrived to stay. On April 22, she releases "Paloma" — her reimagining of the beloved bolero ranchera "Cucurrucúcú Paloma" — along with its accompanying video. The single marks the first chapter of her upcoming covers album: a project built entirely from songs that have shaped her life across two countries.

Where previous interpretations of the song have leaned into its raw, ranchera fire, La Zorra's version moves in a different direction entirely. Her "Paloma" is atmospheric and suspended — a haze of reverb and quiet longing that transforms one of Mexico's most iconic songs into something that feels both ancient and entirely new. It is not a cover that competes with its predecessors. It opens a different door.

"I didn't want to cover this song to prove anything," says La Zorra Zapata. "I covered it because it already felt like mine. CDMX gave me a home, and 'Paloma' is how I say thank you."
