NEWS - Monica Casagrande "Shadows" is a musical dive into the unconscious.
Monica Casagrande is a singer and songwriter from Marilia-SP, Brazil. In 2019 she released “Segundo Ato do Novo”, the first of four singles, which dealt with death and rebirth, a concept she titled as “Cárcere do Carcará”, with great jazz influence, production and musical direction by Eduardo Brechó (vocalist of Aláfia) and Renato Alves (jazz guitarist and composer), and Estela Paixão as voice director (vocalist of Aláfia, backing vocals for Liniker and Xênia França). In 2022, she released her first EP entitled “Encruza Miramar”, which has 5 tracks that reflect on self-knowledge and the many forms of love. The project is entirely focused on exchanges and relationships, whether natural, spiritual or social. With musical production by Ale Elias, it is influenced by Clara Nunes, samba and reggaeton. Now in 2023, after moving to the United States, she launches her new project “Saudades Tropicais”, where she shares a new moment, reflective and full of nostalgia for Brazil, where Monica, and her producer Ale Elias, unite the musical influences of the two countries, in tracks full of bossa nova, jazz, soul and blues.
"Shadows" is inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of the shadow, the song invites listeners on a path of self-discovery — encouraging them to shed light on the unacknowledged parts of themselves. With lyrics that dance between light and darkness, Monica Casagrande offers an introspective journey where shadows are no longer feared but embraced as essential elements of the self. "Shadows" is part of the EP Maré Bruta, a project built around the theme of duality — light and shadow, desire and silence, surrender and resistance.
