Jim Eannelli takes a different direction on “You’re Not Here,” his third single released in 2026. The new recording channels the jangly guitar sounds of circa 1966 folk rock. Buoyed by a tight riff, the melody is carried to the finish by chilly, yearning harmonies. It’s a song about melancholy, a reflection on love gone cold and never rekindled. For aficionados of ‘60s rock, “You’re Not Here” is a perfect mid-point between The Byrds and The Beau Brummels. For Eannelli, as for both of those groups, the subtle shapeshifting sounds of The Beatles is inescapable. Musical influences aside, “You’re Not Here” speaks to anyone who has experienced the aftermath of heartbreak and dwelled on an absence that can’t be filled. Eannelli wrote and produced “You’re Not Here” and played all instruments except electric piano, contributed by longtime colleague Gary Tanin. The recording is a departure from his previous 2026 singles, “Don’t Bring Me Down” and “See the Children Run,” which tapped into the best sounds of classic ‘70s rock and found favorable reviews and consistent streaming across North America and Europe.
