It revisits a familiar template and makes the results sound new again. “Don’t Bring Me Down” is distilled from the essential elements of classic rock with a driving tempo, chilling harmonies and a melody pulled by a powerful electric guitar riff. “Don’t Bring Me Down” will remind listeners of a lost page from The Beatles’ songbook. The anguish in Eannelli’s lead vocals deliver a highly relatable lyric as the singer tries to regain control of his life, stolen by emotional obsession in a relationship that cannot end well but cannot end. Eannelli played all instruments and produced “Don’t Bring Me Down.” The recording is Eannelli’s second single this year, following on the success of “See the Children Run,” also a classic rock song with an ominous undertow and a sharp echo of anxiety. The veteran Milwaukee musician has played in a variety of bands ranging from folk to synth pop and produced a string of well-received albums for Americana singer-songwriter Peggy James. Eannelli’s 2024 solo album, Just Deserts, gave only a hint of the music he is producing in 2026.
