Birmingham's best kept secret Jaydonclover returns with her sophomore 10 track project room service? volume one in the wake of her haunting 2019 debut Recovering Lover. Self-released via her own imprint [NOSPACES] on October 14th, and today she shares the new single 'inthemourning (feat. Kofi Stone)'.
Giving more context on the single, Jaydon explains: "Inthemourning is a heart wrenching love story about two lovers who are parted by death. The ghost of the lover, perfectly narrated by Kofi Stone, shares his account on missing his true love mutually."
Akin to an auditory film, The project simulates a dream within a surreal hotel where each room represents a learnt lesson/blessing on lust, love, loss and self doubt from the perspective of a serial seductress with a perpetually broken heart, complete with bell boys to carry the emotional baggage. Continuing her highly successful relationship with lo-fi mogul dylantheinfamous, room service? volume one is composed of ironic jazz samples and features a sublime selection of guest contributors including Bel Cobain, ZekeUltra, phil & Kofi Stone.
Lead single 'dreamhotel' epitomises the sweet sonics of a daydream as Jaydon explains that even if she could materialise a 'perfect' lover, she wouldn't. Second single 'but my sister' feat. Bel Cobain evokes a perfumed boudoir, where Jaydon's sisters attempt to dissuade her from lovers that they feel are beneath her, despite her insistence that looks aren't everything.
Notable tracks on the project include 'PRETTIER' in which Jaydon reminds those with expectations that whilst she could prioritise her looks and dilute her personality for them, she has absolutely no desire to and does not require their validation. In 'halfpastnine', produced by Gumsoul, Jaydon embodies a homewrecking femme fatale with minimal morals, curling the phone wire around treacherous fingers.
A feast for the ears and mind, the project will delight with its seductive irony, originality and loyalty to lo-fi hip hop whilst embodying the essence of R&B through a perfect meeting of classic and contemporary influences.
