Business or Pleasure by Poor Bambi

In June 2023, Stavanger band Poor Bambi played a showcase at Blåveis, and it wasn't just the local audience in attendance. Star producer Nicholas Sansano, known for iconic albums such as Goo and Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth, was visiting Stavanger and took notice of the band. The song "Business or Pleasure" made a particular impression. Just a few months later, the band was in the studio in New York with Sansano to record new music. On Wednesday, October 8, two of the tracks, "Business or Pleasure" and "Colours Does Not Exist", will be released.
"It felt surreal to have a producer we admire in the studio while recording our own songs. It's a moment we'll never forget," says Sarah Hestness, vocalist and guitarist of Poor Bambi.
When Nicholas Sansano saw Poor Bambi at Blåveis in Stavanger, it was "Business or Pleasure" that stole the spotlight.
– "Is it business or pleasure? It's both — it just depends on what you need," says producer Nicholas Sansano about Poor Bambi.
The band is defined by striking contrasts: a traditional yet innovative power trio that is both loose and precise, technical yet raw, driven by both melodic songs and experimental soundscapes. The interplay of contrasts creates a broad narrative that feels deeply satisfying, Sansano continues.
When asked what the songs are about, vocalist and guitarist Sarah Hestness elaborates:
– "Business or Pleasure" is an intense noise-rock track driven by dirty guitars and vocals balancing on the edge between vulnerability and breakdown. It's inspired by 90s alt-rock and modern shoegaze, with lyrics that come across as raw, honest, and unfiltered — almost like an intimate confession."
– "Colours Does Not Exist" is a more cinematic track that moves between a floating soundscape and a powerful chorus. For me, it captures a restless tension of balancing on the edge, fully aware that if you fall too deep, it will be hard to climb back up again."
