Beverly Hudson "Still Here Somehow"
News

Beverly Hudson was born and raised in Mapleton, Ontario, Canada, where she grew up
surrounded by open fields, starlit skies, and the tranquil rhythm of rural life—elements that
continue to shape her music today. A classically trained pianist from the age of five, Beverly
spent her childhood performing at local recitals and composing short pieces inspired by the
seasons. Her grandmother, a former piano teacher, was her first mentor and encouraged
Beverly not just to play, but to feelevery note.
At 13, Beverly wrote her first original song after discovering her mother's vinyl collection
featuring artists like Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, and Kate Bush. By high school, she was entering songwriting competitions, winning the Ontario Young Artist Showcase twice, and gaining a grassroots following after a video of her performing an original song in a maple
forest went viral.
Blending contemporary pop with classical motifs and ethereal textures, Beverly's music is
characterized by intimate piano melodies, fragile yet expressive vocals, and emotionally
candid lyrics. Her songs explore themes of healing, emotional resilience, and the unseen
magic in everyday moments. She often incorporates field recordings—rainfall on cabin roofs, morning birdsong, or wind through the trees—into her production, building an immersive world around her voice.
After studying music composition at the Royal Conservatory of Canada and spending a year
traveling and writing in Iceland and Scotland, Beverly returned to Canada with a renewed
artistic vision. She released her independently produced debut EP Whisper Lake—recorded
in a converted barn studio—quickly gaining critical attention from Canadian music blogs and
being featured in CBC's "Ones to Watch."
Beverly's artistry extends beyond music. She is an advocate for mental health and
environmental sustainability, often partnering with Canadian nature conservancies and
speaking about the therapeutic power of music. In live performances, she is known for
creating intimate atmospheres—sometimes starting shows by playing in near darkness,
illuminated only by soft candlelight to "let the audience breathe with the music."
Currently working on her debut full-length album, Beverly Hudson is poised to become one
of Canada's most authentic new voices. With a sound that feels both timeless and modern,
she invites listeners into a world where vulnerability is strength, silence speaks, and every
melody tells a story.
