Gdhio Oihdg's review
Go nads... Nadine Shah is often compared to both Polly J Harvey and Siouxsie Sioux but for the first few songs tonight it was difficult to see why.
Sure her voice is beautiful but the songs just felt a little middle of the road. But when she kicked in, she did.. and then some from the Venus in Furs tones of 'Fool', to the theatrical sounds of 'Aching Bones' and 'Floating', and the quite splendid 'Young man' which delivered in her North East tones had me thinking she sounded like a female Brian Clough!
She justified the Polly and Siouxsie comparisons. I'd also suggest there's a little bit of a Dresden Dolls influence as well. Her between song banter was both infectious and hilarious, and support band 'Black Site' were the best opening act I've seen in a while. Think the Kills crossed with Chris Isaak at his most dulcet.
