"This record has been over 3 years in the making, and a good part of that time was spent selecting what to sing!  I’m singing and interpreting songs we know and love, some written by special songwriters like Janis Ian, Lisa Sanders, and one of my favorite songwriters - Joni Mitchell." says Paulette who in the `70s was the original lead singer of Rufus, preceding Chaka Khan.

The team behind the album:

I’ve been blessed to have two-time Grammy Winner Kamau Kenyatta as the producer for this project. He’s worked with artists like Gregory Porter, Kathy Kosins, Daneen Wilburn, and more.

Kamau recommended all these musicians because he knew their work and he knew me. He thought that their work combined with mine would be a good fit. Here is the team.

Producer – Kamau Kenyatta
Kamau is an amazing musician in his own right and his body of work as a producer speaks for itself!

Drums – Terreon Gully
Terreon is a Grammy award winning drummer who drums have graced the projects of Christian McBride, Me’Shell NdegeOcello, Lauryn Hill, and more.

Bass – Trevor Ware
This Grammy nominated bassist has played with the likes of The Count Basie Orchestra, Kenny Burrell, Molly Ringwald, and more.

Trumpet – Curtis Taylor
This Grammy winning musician is a rising star in the jazz scene. He has recorded and performed with artists like Ed Motta, Patrice Rushen, Billy Childs, and more.

Keys – Hugo Suarez
Hugo is a young jazz talent who brings a new breath of air to this record. His skills have made him one of the top pianists in San Diego.

Percussion – David Castañeda
David has been an in-demand performer in Southern California playing everything from salsa to modern jazz. He is currently finishing up his doctorate in ethnomusicology at UCLA.

Mix engineer – Paul Tavenner
Paul has been engineering and mixing records for over 20 years. He specializes in jazz and he has been making these songs shine!

This incredible group of musicians really made me want to live up to the brilliance that they brought to the album.
