The continual motion of being on the road can be addictive and the feelings that come with being away from home and family are hard to reconcile in a relationship.  The backstory for my song “Here and Now” is elusive…it could be about the life of a rodeo cowboy or a touring musician. Either one works, because there are lots of similarities between those two lifestyles. The characters in this song have been through a lot, and I don’t know if they are going to “make up the difference.”

This song isn’t a solitary desire, it's about a relationship that is under some tension. I think it's an interesting twist that the character who is always on the move is being questioned about being color blind. There’s this notion that everything around them must look brown, and that could explain the desire to keep moving. It’s also interesting that the story is told from the point of view of the person in the relationship who wants to stop moving because they have found beauty in the present, at this nice place close to the river.
